Mike Tyson, the man, the myth, the legend, believes Francis Ngannou will shock the world by defeating WBC champion Tyson Fury. Francis Ngannou will make his boxing debut on 28 October against the guy who took down Deontay Wilder twice. The matchup is as intriguing as it can get as pugilists from different backgrounds come together to knock each other’s heads off. But what makes this fight even more interesting is Mike’s confidence in Ngannou winning the matchup despite being a massive underdog.

The much-anticipated fight scheduled in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has captured the imaginations of fans worldwide. Even though the fight doesn’t have Fury’s title on the line, mainly because WBC has not ranked Ngannou, many are expecting it to be a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. Ngannou, regarded by experts as the hardest puncher in combat sports, has enlisted coaching advice from Mike Tyson to defeat the mammoth that is Tyson Fury. But the question remains – is that enough to defeat the Mancunian?

Given his extensive experience in the sport, it’s safe to say Mike knows what he is talking about. To add to his credibility, Mike himself has been a Heavyweight champion who has taken down many strong opponents in his career. However, what really got the crowd going was his prediction. Tyson recently predicted that Ngannou has what it takes to knock out any elite-level boxer who is standing in his way. What’s more, Mike even claimed if Ngannou lands a punch on Tyson Fury’s jaw, Fury won’t be able to withstand it.

The prediction from Mike has left the experts in both MMA and boxing more perplexed than before. Everyone had speculated that Ngannou would lose the fight, but with Mike and his prediction involved, those assumptions seem shaky at best. However, there is more to the story! Fury has shown incredible resilience and endurance in the ring, even when facing heavy punchers in boxing like Deontay Wilder. So, what makes Mike so sure about Ngannou winning?

Ngannou’s power: A genuine threat!

So, it’s established that Mike’s confidence stems from Francis Ngannou’s ability to finish the fight via a single punch. There is some credence to Mike’s opinion, as Ngannou’s extraordinary punching power has gone down in the records as the hardest. His power has helped him become a formidable force in the MMA world, having defeated the likes of Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem, and many more. All his accomplishments have made him a genuine threat to Tyson Fury.

Furthermore, Ngannou’s record in the UFC speaks for itself. Ngannou obtained 12 of his 17 wins via knockouts. If not anything else, these wins are a testament of his ability to end fights in a single swing. What’s more, despite his large frame, Ngannou is a highly athletic fighter who can move like a cheetah inside the ring. So, his punching power, combined with his athleticism, can give him an edge over Fury in the ring.

Time Mike Tyson spent coaching Francis Ngannou

Mike’s confidence in Francis winning the upcoming fight is further bolstered because of the time he has spent training the Cameroonian fighter. Since Mike joined Ngannou’s camp, he has worked closely with the fighter while helping him hone his skills, which further cemented his confidence in Ngannou’s ability to win. Moreover, Mike had asserted that Ngannou’s progress in the ring had surprised him tremendously. “He’s moving his head, he’s getting it together, and he’s determined to do this stuff for his country, his people, his patriotic pride,” Mike told The Jim Rome Show.

Moreover, Mike once invited Ngannou on his podcast, where Mike drew comparisons with Conor McGregor, who fought against Floyd Mayweather in a similar crossover boxing event. Mike questioned if Conor could fight the best boxer in the world for ten rounds; what is stopping Ngannou from doing even better against Tyson Fury? And that’s exactly why the fight has created so much buzz, Mike imparting years of experience to Ngannou so he can face the most formidable opponent of his career.

Even though Fury’s WBC title is not on the line in the upcoming fight, there are other severe implications to Ngannou winning the fight. Ngannou could potentially face Fury in a rematch or fight other mammoths of the boxing world. A potential win for Ngannou against Tyson Fury can open up a plethora of doors to a myriad of opportunities. However, turning that scenario into a reality is no easy feat.
