America’s undisputed Lightweight Champion, Devin Haney successfully defended his title against the Ukrainian boxer, Vasyl Lomachenko. It was indeed a clash among the bests, as Haney started the fight with explosive energy. While Lomachenko maintained his distance and waited for his chance. Then in the later rounds, the Ukranian Lightweight boxer zipped in with well-timed jabs and body shots, displaying an extraordinary spectacle of his experience. Now, throughout the fight, there were many momentum shifts by both boxers, and overall, it turned out to be a pretty close fight.

Although Haney won the bout, it wasn’t without a controversial decision that is going to be appealed by Lomachenko’s team. Many fans still believe that Loma won the fight in the true sense, and it was a blatant ‘robbery’ in front of 14,436 witnesses at the MGM Grand Garden. So much so that Haney was booed out of the arena by the boxing fans who believed Lomachenko was the victor in all fairness. Even his father, Bill Haney, was attacked by a fan inside the arena.

Devin Haney’s father responds to getting attacked by a fan

After the unexpected announcement of Haney, it sent a wave of dissent across the whole stadium. Most of the fans opposed it. And the boxing world had varied opinions on this matter, while it aroused enmity among friends, and amity among enemies. This decision even landed Canelo Alvarez’s team and Oscar De La Hoya share the same stage of opinions, as they both thought Loma to be the winner.

Despite the assurance given by Lomachenko’s team that they would be raising their voices against such atrocity, the distress of the fans didn’t end there. Some fans also went so far ahead to take matters into their hands. As Haney was leaving the ring with his father and trainer, Bill Haney, took a hit directly on his head by a beer bottle, thrown by an agitated fan.

In the later interview, he addressed this situation, and it was apparent that it wasn’t enough to break his spirit. “The guy that hit me with the Bud Light bottle – bless you, bless you. Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, ” Bill Haney stated.

Even though he was abused publicly, Bill Haney didn’t let it get in between his happiness for his son’s victory.
