As the dust settles in the FIBA World Cup 2023, Dennis Schroder has made history and emerged as an MVP of the tournament for his incredible performance. Schroder was traded to the Lakers in 2020 and had a solid season. He averaged 15.4 points and 5.8 assists per game. However, he was a restricted free agent at the end of the season and the Lakers could not agree to a contract extension with him. Schroder eventually signed a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics for $5.9 million.

After all, they had to wait for more than two decades for this moment. Dirk Nowitzki was the MVP for the 2002 tournament. In 2022, Schroder returned to the Lakers on a one-year, $2.64 million deal. He played well in the regular season, averaging 12.6 points and 4.5 assists per game. However, he was inconsistent in the playoffs and was benched in the Western Conference Finals. Bron’s praise was expected, given their shared history.
