FromSoftware and Bandai Namco’s most anticipated game of the year took over UK sales spectacularly over the weekend. The latest reports reveal that Elden Ring is, in fact, the fastest-selling ‘Souls-like’ title of all time.

Moreover, Elden Ring had a massive debut as far as the UK boxed sales are concerned, becoming the No. 1 selling title. In doing so, it also pushed aside previous top rank holders like Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West and Nintendo Switch exclusive title Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Elden Ring beats Horizon Forbidden West, Pokemon Legends: Arceus in the UK sales

The newly launched project is a totally fresh IP by FromSoftware. The studio was previously known for iconic games like Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. And Elden Ring is the new addition to these kinds of entries that are popularly categorized as ‘Souls-like’.

2016’s Dark Souls 3 was the previous best-selling Souls-like title. However, Elden Ring defeated it upon its debut last week. The Hidetaka Miyazaki game outnumbered it by 26 percent in the boxed sales. One thing to note is that it’s before adding the figures of digital sales, as per GamesIndustry.biz.

Moreover, Elden Ring is the No. 1 seller of the week, defeating Horizon Forbidden West, which was the number one title a week ago. Also, the fantasy RPG pushed Pokemon Legends: Arceus to third place, slipping further from the second position.

Forbidden West fell down 79 percent in sales week-on-week since its awaited launch on February 18. Arceus, however, rose by five percent in the boxed sales despite falling down in the ranking on the chart.

Overall, Elden Ring is the third best-selling boxed title of 2022 so far. It’s behind Pokemon Legends: Arceus and slightly behind the Horizon sequel.
