Ever since the start of this season, McLaren have been at the top of their game, with both Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo chipping in crucial points. And this initially dented the Ferrari F1 team’s prospects of returning to the top 3 in the constructors’ standings.
However, the Maranello outfit found a breakthrough with their latest and the final update of the season – a modified power unit. The team eventually revealed that they managed to gain an extra 10 to 12 hp out of the update.
Now, with the evolved engine at the back, Ferrari have put themselves right back in the game, and are steadily reducing the gap to their rivals.

Interestingly, Ferrari’s goal isn’t just to defeat McLaren but to also eye a podium finish over each of the upcoming races in the west and the middle-east continent.
Ferrari targeting big points in the coming weeks
According to Motorsport, Ferrari F1 boss, Mattia Binotto, affirmed that the Reds are comfortably the third quickest team at the moment, and can compete for podiums regularly.

“This new power unit allows us to position ourselves right behind Mercedes and Red Bull. This is very important because it means we are ahead of the rest. I think we can now think about the podium and try to get on the podium in every race,” Binotto said. (Translated via Google Translate)

Consequently, the gap between Norris and Sainz has come down to 29.5 points while with Leclerc, it is 29 points. Hence, with 6 more races left in the bag, there is a huge chance that one of the Ferrari drivers will surge past the Briton in the championship standings.
