Sebastian Vettel has sent the world of Formula 1 into a frenzy. The German will not extend or renew his current contract and will retire at the end of the current season. Despite rumors of his retirement flying around all season, the confirmation has caught everyone by surprise. Following the confirmation, the entire Formula 1 fraternity has shared their reaction to the news.

Although, one of the most heartfelt statements has come from a long-time colleague of Vettel. Ever since 2007, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have shared the stage in the premier motor sporting competition. Despite the obvious rivalry, there is a lot of mutual respect between them, especially with voicing their opinions.

Staying true to his nature, the Mercedes world champion shared his honest and heartfelt thoughts about his compatriot’s retirement. He said, “I would say naturally my first feeling is that it’s sad to see he’s stopping. — When I talk about the journey I’ve experienced in this sport and often feeling that it’s been lonely, I would say he’s one of the few people who have made it feel not lonely.”

“He’s stood by me through a lot of things. — Seeing his success and seeing he puts others before himself, he’s been so brave in speaking out and standing up for what he believes in,” added Hamilton.

Alonso’s expiring contract and recent performances make him a perfect fit. Whereas the other options in Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri have their own challenges. However, Vettel would like to pave the way for his protégé, Mick Schumacher.
