In F1, confidence is key. Without it, a driver can simply not succeed. As so far, the tenacious Spaniard seems to have an abundance of it. Unsurprisingly, he’s the only non-Red Bull driver who won a race in 2023. This showcases the belief he has in himself and in Ferrari to take on tough competition.

As per GP Fans, he stated,I think that if there is someone capable of doing it [challenging Red Bull], that is Ferrari. Especially if we have clear objectives and know which direction to go in, if there is any team that has the capacity to react, as has been seen in the past, that is Ferrari.” Sainz’s optimism is crystal clear as he is already looking ahead to the future. His unwavering belief in Tifosi’s potential, especially for the 2024 season, is perhaps an indication that things are finally going right.

Carlos pointed to Ferrari’s strong showings in the first half of the 2023 season, marked by victories in Singapore and podium finishes in Monza. He’s humbled by acknowledging the challenge posed by Red Bull under the new regulations. But his unwavering belief is that if anyone can occasionally challenge Red Bull’s dominance, it’s Ferrari.

“I think I’m in the best place to try again next year but there are still six races left and we still have to focus on what we can improve to arrive prepared,” says a confident Sainz. With the gap between Ferrari and McLaren being a mere 79 points, Sainz and Ferrari have fierce competitors to compete with. Moreover, the likes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell of Mercedes are looking to capitalize on increasing their lead.

The road ahead for Ferrari

The appointment of Fredric Vasseur as team principal at the start of the 2023 season has injected new vigor and ambition into the Scuderia. Even though their recent gamble has led to some believing that Ferrari is in even worse shape. Overall, Fredric’s appointment has done more good than harm.

One of the main challenge for Ferrari lies in the team’s ability to react swiftly. Following which, they need to improve when implementing necessary changes right from the start of the next season. While there’s no denying that Ferrari showed glimpses of resilience and adaptability in the past. It’s the consistency that the team requires the most. And that’s a question that will only be told in time.

Sainz’s and Ferrari’s optimism is much appreciated. But the reality is that as of now, McLaren is the next serious challengers. Not only have the McLaren drivers showcased class and racing spirit. But also an exhilarating pace that is not that far from the mighty Red Bull. Ferrari’s first step towards improvement should be to finish ahead of Mercedes and McLaren. Especially when considering the price bonus for finishing second at the constructors’ championship.
