Ever since the 2021 season, one question has consumed the world of Formula 1. Who is better, Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen? Both drivers have their set of supporters. However, no one can argue one’s quality of over the other because the two are incredibly talented drivers. However, when it comes to personal preference, everyone has one and so does Haas’ boss, Guenter Steiner. The rockstar of DTS settled the debate and made his choice based on one aspect.

Steiner was asked to make this difficult choice during in fun YouTube interview with Sky Sports F1. Among the many questions, the Italian boss was put on the spot and asked to choose between, “Prime Lewis Hamilton or Prime Max Verstappen to drive for Haas.”

It seemed to be an easy choice for Steiner as he instantly replied, “Max.“ When asked to elaborate, Steiner gave his reasoning and attributed his choice to one word: luck. Steiner elaborated, “He’s just on a roll at the moment. He cannot do anything wrong in my opinion. Everything what he does sticks so you want to go with the guy who just got the luck attached to him. He has got the talent, obviously. He’s not only lucky, he has got a lot of talent.”

Steiner joins the long list of F1 entities favoring Verstappen over Hamilton. However, we are all aware all talented drivers need the tools to showcase their talents, and getting the right tools in F1 can sometimes come down to luck. This doesn’t diminish a driver’s ability at an F1 single-seater. However, without one, the task becomes extremely difficult. In fact, Hamilton has also been termed lucky by many, including Lando Norris fairly recently.

Lewis Hamilton instantly made a lasting impact in the world of Formula 1 with an incredible debut season with McLaren. The Woking outfit was on the top of the F1 pyramid and had one of the most competitive cars on the grid. Hamilton’s timely selection for McLaren coupled with his talents made the record-breaking rookie season possible.

However, without the car, with all his talents, Hamilton couldn’t have finished just a point behind the 2007 world champion. Without the car, the timing, and some luck, it wouldn’t have been possible and Norris believes the same.

He said, “Formula 1 just isn’t as simple as everyone wishes it is or thinks it is at times. You can be lucky you know. Lewis came into McLaren when they were winning races, winning championships. So for someone to say are you trying to emulate Lewis Hamilton? I wish I could say yes but at the same time even if you’re the best driver in the world with the car you have now, not going to win races and not going to achieve a lot more for what I have. You have to be lucky. You have to have things go your way.”
