Having a strong teammate can be a gift and a curse, a notable example is when Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen were teammates back in 2019. Gasly was not able to deal with the dominance of Verstappen and hence was demoted to their second team, AlphaTauri.
But, it seems like the Frenchman has found his mojo back as he bagged three podiums and a win for the team. Hence, 2016 world champion, Nico Rosberg thinks that it was the mentality at Red Bull that didn’t allow him to unlock his full potential.

As quoted from Motorsportotal.com, Rosberg said, “You mustn’t forget that it’s mentally a different situation now. He no longer has Max Verstappen at his side in the same car.”
“Who knows, maybe that was the problem he couldn’t cope with mentally? To have such a strong teammate,” the German concluded. (Translated from German via Google translate)

The Frenchman is hoping for a second shot at Red Bull
Gasly’s first stint at the Milton-Keynes-based outfit wasn’t a memorable one, as he failed to bring crucial points for the team. Hence he found himself at Toro Rosso (AlphaTauri) midway through the 2019 season.
However, showing that he has the talent and the skill to be behind the wheel, Gasly is hoping to be called back to the team for a chance at redemption.
He said, “You have to have the will. It’s there on my side. I want a competitive car with which I can fight for podiums, wins and the World Cup. I’m sure that we will talk about my future in the coming weeks and months. Whether at Red Bull, AlphaTauri or elsewhere.”
“I’m doing my best to make them realize that I deserve this cockpit. Not many other drivers have achieved three podiums in a midfield car,” he concluded.
