Nelly Korda had a splendid round of golf today. An 8-under 64 in 18 holes helped her jump up 36 spots on the leaderboard. She’s excited to give a last shot at winning an LPGA Tour title in 2025 in Florida. But even her efforts were overshadowed by what Auston Kim pulled off on the second hole.

The LPGA Tour shared a video of her second shot on the par-4 earlier today. She hit a pitch-perfect approach shot that landed perfectly on the green. But even Kim didn’t think that it would actually roll into the hole. That helped her score an eagle after starting the round with a birdie.
It was Kim’s sixth eagle of the season. And everyone in the commentary box was shocked at its accuracy. “Go in! Yes!” said one of them before sharing, “I didn’t want to get too excited. We followed her last year at the Founders Cup. This is my favorite player to watch.”

Kim made her LPGA Tour debut in 2024. She seems to have already impressed the analysts during her performance in the Founders Cup. On paper, her T68 finish may not seem as impressive. But she was excellent in the first and third rounds of the event for a 24-year-old rookie.
This season, she has already come close to winning her first title a few times. Her most impressive run came in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Kim finished at T2 in the event. She was only three strokes away from claiming her first title, which would have been a major.

Did Auston Kim outscore Nelly Korda in Florida?
She may have overshadowed Nelly Korda on the day. But in the end, even Auston Kim would want the results on the leaderboard to matter the most. She was only 1 stroke behind the world #2 at the beginning of the day. However, the way she started, Kim certainly took the lead away from Korda by the end of her second hole.
But that didn’t last very long. A double bogey on the sixth proved to be her downfall. And Nelly kept on improving her score consistently throughout the round. As mentioned, she managed to score 8-under 64 for the day.
Auston would have had the same score as well if it weren’t for her errors. She managed a double bogey and a bogey that pulled her score down to 5-under 67. Had she maintained her lead, she too would have been tied with Nelly Korda for the third spot. Instead, Auston Kim ended up at T21 with 36 holes more to play in the 2025 CME Group Tour Championship.
