Ryan Garcia is set to take on his toughest challenge. He is one of the best fighters in the lightweight division currently. However, throughout his career, the name Gervonta Davis has been associated with him. Both young fighters are around the same weight and are undefeated. Not to mention, they both have an array of spectacular knockouts under their belt. One has an advantage in power while the other has a speed advantage.
The division is filled with many other prospects. One such prospect is Shakur Stevenson. The 25-year-old is undefeated and has 20 professional bouts. This past Saturday, he secured an impressive victory. On the same night, Israel Adesanya avenged his loss against Alex Pereira. Garcia, in an interview, addressed both matches.

Adesanya and Pereira have a long history. Their rivalry is one of the most iconic rivalries the sport has ever seen. After their rematch, ‘Stylebender’ pointed at Pereira’s son and fell to the mat, mocking Pereira for being knocked out.

That was a reference to the time when Adesanya got knocked out and his son, after that match, mocked Israel as he was knocked out in the ring. Though the same did not resonate well with Garcia.

In an interview with @FightHype, before his open workout, Garcia showed his disaffection towards how Adesanya celebrated his victory. He stated, “I didn’t like him mocking a five-year-old kid and I see where that came from right where I came from. I mean, I guess if you want viral moments, but you go out of character to have a viral moment.”
One may argue that what Adesanya did was questionable. Garcia is one such individual who disliked the action. The boxer also commented on his fellow contender’s bout.

Last Saturday, Stevenson proved that he is a force to be reckoned with. Stevenson made his lightweight debut on Saturday against a formidable opponent. He secured a finish in the sixth round. The WBC president also publicly stated on Twitter that he is a mandatory contender for Devin Haney to face as he is the undisputed champion of the lightweight division.
Garcia, in the same interview, commented on Stevenson’s lightweight debut. He stated, “Hey that was the worst day to have a fight for sure because they were like yo they need to do better like thinking”.
