Both Cup and Xfinity NASCAR races on the track of Watkins Glen were surely a spectacle to watch. While the elite series saw Chase Elliott and his playoff hopes crumbling down after his car came to a standstill, the Xfinity Series witnessed the brewing of a post-race banter between two rivals.

The incident between Sam Mayer and Ty Gibbs has been the talk of the town since the conclusion of the race and is yet to simmer down. Whenever something like this happens, NASCAR insiders and veterans take sides and that is what Denny Hamlin has done, too, with his teammate. However, it is apparent that Dale Earnhardt Jr won’t let his driver suffer in silence. The co-owner settles the dispute once and for all in the latest episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast, even if it’s going against a longtime friend.

To reiterate the incidents from Saturday’s race on the track of Watkins Glen, Ty Gibbs, who was a dominating force in the race, was just steps away from tasting victory. However, his hard work went for naught after contact between Gibbs and JR Motorsports driver, Sam Mayer. The JGR driver eventually spun out on the track and finished 17th in the race.

Owing to which Gibbs delivered a sly jab towards Mayer for wheel hopping and overdriving in the corner. Nevertheless, the JR Motorsports driver apologized for the incident and revealed it was unintentional. Having said that, the matter did not draw a conclusion, rather Cup Series veteran and Gibbs’ teammate Denny Hamlin shed his insights to the insight and bashed Mayer for intentionally wrecking Ty Gibbs.

On account of this, Dale Earnhardt Jr was forced to break his silence and provide the other of the story, snubbing Denny Hamlin. In the latest episode of Dale Jr. Download, Mike Davis, the co-host of the podcast, expressed, “The guys interpreted it all wrong. You know it’s funny how we hear the audio and then we all have just different interpretations; ‘It’s not racing, I don’t know what it is’. He had a lot of things wrong, one, his crew chief, two Kevin Hamlin was actually talking off the ledge.”

To this, the co-owner of JR Motorsports, Dale Earnhardt Jr retorted, “So what I thought funny was, either Denny didn’t hear it and somebody told him the stuff second-hand or Denny took it the same way as Sam took it. When he heard the comments from the spotter, Denny took it as a ‘go get it’. At least everybody that I have talked to took it as ‘Hey man, you were racing the same way on that last restart, regrouping and buckle down.”

Davis then concluded, “I can’t remember exactly what his words were, ‘but you gotta do, what you gotta do’ but the fact that matters here just trying to pump up the driver. You gotta pretty much chequered restart here. Get your head back into the game, and go try to win the race. And he certainly was not saying go take him out, there was none of that. But you are right, Sam goes ‘10-4’. Not 10-4, just a copy that would have been fine. Denny, you are wrong,”.

This response from the former Cup Series driver comes days after Denny Hamlin chose to side with Ty Gibbs on the latest episode of his podcast ‘Actions Detrimental’.

He revealed, “People are gonna call me a Homer because I’m sticking out for Ty. They can f**k off. Because I will call it as straight as I can call it. Ty was already driving in plenty deep enough; he already had a gap.”

“Sam made the decision to hey I’m not gonna give up this spot here in the esses, even though you are ahead and I’m barely hanging on, you better give me full space. That’s just not the way it works […],” Hamlin added.
