Even after serving the one-race suspension, Chase Elliott is still the talk of the town, and perhaps, will be cited as long as there are instances of hooking the other driver. The Hendrick Motorsports ace is yet to come to terms with the facts of his suspension when another instance seems to crop up drawing his example.  

The NASCAR races of both the formats—the Cup Series and Xfinity Series—were clearly filled with dramatic instances. It was not lackluster. Rather it had all the elements that fans could ask for: wrecks, contentions, and also the breaking down of the cars on the tracks added with fistfights among the drivers.  

And in this fight for attention, it is the Cup Series that has gained the most attention from the audience. The reason is manifold. However, primarily, it was the feud between Austin Dillon and Austin Cindric. Nevertheless, it is Denny Hamlin who has the perfect advice for the drivers to get on the good side of Richard Childress.

While the audience surely missed the poster boy of NASCAR, who was sidelined due to the rear hooking of Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin in the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the on-track debacles during the race apparently filled up the gap. The race at World Wide Technology witnessed three red flags and a number of cautions and also the extension of the race to overtime.

The weekend race also witnessed drivers going at odds with each other after on-track debacles. One such war of words broke out between Richard Childress’ grandson and driver Austin Dillon and Team Penske’s driver Austin Cindric after the former accused the Penske driver of hooking him at the right rear.

The incident occurred in Lap 220 when Cindric hit Dillon as they raced ahead in Turn 4, inadvertently involving Ricky Steinhouse Jr in the process. In the post-race interview, the RCR driver expressed to Frontstretch, “I was wrecked intentionally by [Austin Cindric], hooked right, just like Chase [Elliott] and Denny [Hamlin] and Bubba’s deal. He better be suspended next week.”

Although Dillon and his grandfather cried foul, the governing bodies decided against him. After reviewing the data from the race, Elton Sawyer, expressed, “We didn’t see anything, and haven’t seen anything, that really would rise to a level that would be a suspension or a penalty.”  “It looked like hard racing. One car coming up a little bit and another car going down,” he added.

After the news of the wreck made headlines in the NASCAR community, even the JGR driver seized the opportunity to get the facts straight. In his podcast, Action Detrimental shared his thoughts. He said, “Is it as egregious? No.” “But there is no reason to be turning left there,” he added.

Hamlin also expressed the fact, “I mean especially you are one week after the whole Chase thing, you know NASCAR is on a heightened alert, that’s just a lapse in judgment by Cindric. What are you doing? Like if you are mad at him, just go into the next corner and bump him into the back of him, like you don’t have to wreck him.”

These exclamations from Denny Hamlin, days after demanding suspension for Chase Elliott, infuriated the fans on Twitter as they pointed out a double standard from Hamlin’s end.

Few wrote on Twitter, “Are we really doing this again in the court of Denny Hamlin!?!?”

“He’s such a hypocrite.”

“Cindric held his line. Dillon moved up into him. Do your research before passing judgement.”

Others also wrote, “Hell no.. if nascar is gonna start suspending people for every wreck then youre gonna lose a lot of fans”

“Hamlin portraying himself as the “sheriff” of the garage, makes the racing fandom want to throw up. There’s only one reason Elliott got parked. Hamlin played the Wallace card. Nascar wasn’t going to get into that PR nightmare”

The controversies are yet to simmer down from both ends, and NASCAR has to deal with the issues at hand with dexterity or it perhaps fuels another set of controversies. It is to be seen how the authority deals with future incidents of wrecks. Will they slam a suspension or provide leeway to the drivers?
