Kyrie Irving returns to his base amid the Dallas Mavericks‘ dominant run. Currently, the Mavs are on a 7-game winning streak and it has everything to do with Irving and Luka Doncic. And, the 8x All-Star reminds himself and his followers about his spine-chilling statement before entering the league. It’s left to his followers to determine whether he has lived up to his words or not.
The 31-year-old star took his Instagram stories and dropped his statement from 2009, two years before his rookie season. The statement read: “I’m going to make it even if I have to run through a ton of walls. F being friends I’m going to destroy these dudes.” Irving sure did enter the league with a lot of hype surrounding him ahead of the 2011-12 season.
Notably, he lived up to the hype, winning the Rookie of the Year award. Apart from living up to the hype, he also carried heavy baggage on his shoulders. When LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers and joined the Miami Heat, Irving was expected to bring the Cavs their first glory. Even though he didn’t realize the dream without the help of King James, he did feel the heat in his starting few seasons.

After James’ return to the Cavs in 2014, the duo partnered up to go against the lethal Golden State Warriors and defeated them in the 2016 Finals. Living by his words from 2009, Irving went up against the Warriors’ core three to win the chip.
It’s been years since Irving and James played together and the superstar still never fails to publicly laud Uncle Drew for his balling skills.
Moreover, Irving not only impressed LeBron James but also several other legends even before establishing himself in the league.
