The Atlanta Hawks‘ star guard, Trae Young made headlines by making some bold claims on his podcast ‘From the Point’. The 25-year-old athlete partnered with ‘Bleacher Report’ and recorded his first episode where he spoke about his team, the In-Season tournament, and answered a lot of questions fans asked him on social media. While answering a fan’s question, Young made some bold claims about the 9x All-Star Russell Westbrook.

Even though Russ is not playing full-time for the Los Angeles Clippers at the moment, the skills he has demonstrated in the league were appreciated by the 2x All-Star.

A fan asked Trae Young about who he thought was the most explosive player in NBA history. Young reacted by saying, “There’s a lot … but the first one that comes to mind is Russ. What I mean from explosive is just off the run, dribble like off one off two. So probably Russ.”

Even the BR journalist agreed with Young’s opinion and said, “I remember being at the Oklahoma City games when we were growing up and man, Russ would get going on the break man it was over with.”

The journalist even named a few other players like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, and Vince Carter. However, both of them agreed that Russell Westbrook was very explosive in nature. He is one of the two players in NBA history to ever average a triple-double for a season.

Not only that, Russ holds the record for having the most career triple-doubles in the NBA league but even with the skill set, the 9x All-Star has been given a bench role at the Los Angeles Clippers.

Russ chose to take up the bench role

As the Clippers finalized the deal and brought in James Harden, their team was unable to perform in the beginning. They had even lost six games consecutively when Russell Westbrook showed his maturity and chose to sit out. The head coach of the Clippers Ty Lue applauded him for this and called it the “ultimate sacrifice” for a player of his quality.

Westbrook had stated his desire to win a championship upon joining the club, and he even demonstrated his commitment by doing everything it took for the squad to achieve. “I’ve been in the league so long, I understand the definition of true sacrifice and understanding what that looks like,” he stated.

When he was asked about his bench role decision, he stated that his focus is on being a selfless leader for his squad and aiding them in winning games however he can. And from the time he has taken up the bench role, the Clippers are on a roll and are currently on a three-win streak ranking fourth in the Western Conference.

When Russell Westbrook re-signed with the LA Clippers, this isn’t what most people expected would happen. After all, the team was searching for the right addition next to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. But Westbrook intends to do whatever it takes to for a championship.
