Recently, the NBA world woke up to the shocking news of the Brooklyn Nets star-point guard requesting a trade. Consequently, fans around the league are going gaga over the possibility of their team making a move for the 11x All-Star. Likewise, fans in Hollywood are getting excited for an iconic reunion between Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, but not so fast. 

According to sources, Rob Pelinka and co may have hit a major roadblock in pulling the trigger for the Nets guard. This has resulted in a major uproar from fans on social media. 

The ‘Kyrie Irving to the Lakers’ trade on hold due to an impasse 

Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets a few days back. The 2016 NBA champion wants to be traded ahead of the upcoming trade deadline (Feb 09). Moreover, if the Nets management fail to find a suitor within the deadline, Irving’s camp declared that he would leave in free agency as an unrestricted free agent and the Nets would lose him for nothing. Consequently, the NY side have sidelined the 3x All-NBA guard until a trade is finalized before the deadline.

Since the Nets’ top brass have been scouring around the league to maximize their return, the LeBron James-led Lakers have emerged as the favorites to trade for Irving. But all the stakeholders involved were recently hit with a major disheartening news on the whole saga. As per Lakers insider Dan Woike, there is pessimism about the Lakers’ chances of landing ‘Uncle Drew’ due to salary complications. 

Woike reported, “Irving is expected to seek a four-year maximum contract, with the Lakers preferring a two-year deal, aligning with the two years remaining on James’ deal.” The Lakers are already filled to the brim with their salary cap. Subsequently, the above complication may have serious implications for Irving’s future in Hollywood.

Likewise, shook-up fans from around the league took to social media and vehemently expressed their concerns after the latest development.

Many Los Angeles Lakers fans strongly rallied for Rob Pelinka and co to pull the trigger and not miss the opportunity. At the same time, other fanbases celebrated in light of their team’s supposed increased chances. Whereas Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant fans sighed in relief, hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel.
