“I Was in the Back Eating Pasta”: Lakers’ Patrick Beverley’s Uncanny Giannis Antetokounmpo Impression Left NBA Fans with Stomach Pains

Besides winning the 2021 NBA championship, Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has won the hearts of millions of fans with his affable personality. Similarly, the Greek Freak had an amusing exchange with Los Angeles Lakers point guard Patrick Beverley last year. Taking inspiration from the 2x MVPs’ hilarious antics, Beverley gave an account of the exchange with a creative touch. 

On an episode of the PatBev podcast, the former Minnesota Timberwolves point guard reflected on the hilarious exchange with an uncanny impression of Giannis Antetokounmpo, which left the NBA world with stomach-aching laughter.

Before getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and playing alongside LeBron James, Patrick Beverley had a brief stint in Minnesota last year. Incidentally, in one of the road games, the Timberwolves faced off against the then-reigning champions, the Milwaukee Bucks. The competitive bone in Beverley made him look forward to playing against the then reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

However, before the game, it appeared Beverley’s plans of matching up against 7′ Antetokounmpo would not realize that night. As Beverley suited up for their second matchup for the season, he noticed on the board that Giannis’ was not listed for the game. Furious, Beverley met the Greek Freak’s brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo and exclaimed, “What’s up, your brother is duckin the smoke?” However, amidst an uneventful conversation with Thanasis, the Lakers point guard saw the 2x MVP walking out of the locker room.

Beverley narrated the humorous exchange that followed after Giannis showed up. On the PatBev podcast, while reflecting on the exchange, the 34-year-old made an uncanny impression of Antetokounmpo, “Excuse me guys, excuse me guys,” which left his co-host in uncontrollable laughter. He then narrated the incident from the POV of Giannis with the creative impression, “Never duck smoke, Pat, never duck smoke… I was in the back eating pasta, but never duck smoke Pat, never.”

Incidentally, after responding to Beverley’s challenge, the former DPOY also offered him to come to Milwaukee, “I like you, Pat, I like you, you want to win a championship? You come to Milwaukee, I like you Pat.” Needless to say, Antetokounmpo’s offer met with pushback from 3x All-defensive guard, who then proposed he come to Minnesota instead of the other way around. After sharing laughs, they walked away.
