The NBA has seen some of the greatest names in the sport who play in the league. Subsequently, picking only 5 out of the various legends is a difficult task. The same difficulty was faced by NBA legend Stephen Curry in an interview from a while back.

Curry was daunted with the task of naming his starting five, comprising of NBA legends. While some names in his list were expected, some were not. He also made headlines for leaving out some of the biggest names in basketball.

“Whew, that is a tough question. I got to Magic [Johnson], MJ [Michael Jordan], Larry Bird (pauses). I’m gonna go with Wilt [Chamberlain]. We’re going small, so Oscar Robertson,” said Curry, while choosing his starting five.

While names like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan were no surprises, Curry left out some of the biggest legends of the game. Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James did not make the cut to make it into Steph’s team.

This interview was taken all the way back in 2014 when the LeBron vs Steph rivalry was just starting to heat up. The two met in the NBA finals on four occasions with Curry having the edge over LeBron having won three of those four Finals.

The two are widely considered the best players of their generation and their achievements speak for themselves. Curry recently tied LeBron and Shaq after winning his fourth NBA title with the Golden State Warriors.

While Stephen Curry might have Michael Jordan in his top 5, the same cannot be said the other way around. Although Jordan has not made any comments about having Curry in his top 5, the Chicago Bulls legend once made a controversial comment.

According to MJ, Curry is good but not yet worthy of the NBA Hall of Fame. All the way back in 2019, Jordan said, “He’s still a great player, not a hall of famer yet, though.“

After winning his fourth NBA title and putting in a performance of a lifetime, Stephen Curry is sure to change Jordan’s mind regarding his status as a Hall of Famer.
