The next NCAA season is just around the corner and fans are excited to watch some action. Many specifically look forward to the scoring, as everyone is always anticipating – when and who breaks an already-set record.

Consequently, this time as well, many teams have hulk players with the potential to set the highest points in NCAA history. So, who is the scoreboard leader in the NCAA history in men’s and women’s college basketball teams?

Pete Maravich: The all-time leading scorer
Pete Maravich has scripted his name in the history books when it comes to setting records for scoring. Pistol Pete had a legendary career in college basketball scoring 3,667 points. He managed an astonishing average of 44.2 points per game in all three seasons. In addition to this, the three-time Consensus first-team All-American registered more than 60 points in four games. In a game against Alabama in 1970, he achieved NCAA Division One’s second-highest mark by scoring 69 points. Furthermore, what makes his record more special is that he accomplished it without a shot clock and there was no 3-point line.

Detroit Mercy Titans Antoine Davis came very close to this record in the 2022-23 season. The three-team All-American finished his NCAA season last year just four points shy of the all-time record. Scoring at an impressive average of 26.1, 24.3, 24 and 23.9 in his four seasons, he ended up with 3,664 points. He took the second spot from Freeman William’s record when he scored 42 points against IUPUI. Following this, he was the NCAA’s leading scorer for 2023.

The woman athletes are not far behind when it comes to setting scoring records.

Kelsey Plum leading the Women’s division
Leading the charge in the women’s division is the current WNBA champion Kelsey Plum. She had a stellar career in the NCAA where she broke Missouri State’s Jackie Stiles record of 16 years. Representing Washington in 2017, Plum needed just 54 points on her Senior Day to overtake Stiles. She finished her college career with 3,527 points in her 139 games. Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell took a swing at Plum’s record just a year after. Unfortunately, she came up short and finished with 3,402 points.
