Once a ‘Michigan Man’, always a ‘Michigan Man’. Bleeding Michigan’s values is something that all the players at UM do fervently and religiously. Something that Braylon Edwards continues to do after he left UM about 20 years ago. Becoming the Good Samaritan for an 80-year-old was enough to prove the values of Michigan still brewing strong under Edwards’ exterior.
The incident took place on Friday, March 1, 2024, around 10:45 in the morning. The Farmington Family YMCA, located on Farmington Road near 12 Mile Road, reported an assault on an 80-year-old man. Per the Farmington Hills police statement, the 80-year-old was found unconscious with several facial injuries in the men’s locker room. However, the police also reported a 41-year-old witness who found the suspect assaulting the unconscious 80-year-old. The former intervened and pulled the suspect off the injured man. The suspect attacked the younger man as well, but he fought him off.

The 41-year-old was none other than Braylon Edwards. When asked by the local4news, Edwards replied how he saved the victim. “I walk into the locker room after work, and basically, I hear about four rows behind me arguing about music and how it was being played too loud,” said Edwards. “So I’m not paying attention, and I was just minding my business. The noise escalated, but once I hear a thud, that’s when I got up and turned around. And then I see the guy for what I was thinking was reaching for a phone underneath the victim grabs the back of the victim’s head by the hair, and he was about to slam it down on the counter,” Edwards further added.

Even the cops were lauding the good deed, as Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said, “I’d like to thank the good Samaritan for taking action to stop the suspect in the midst of a vicious assault.” This was not the first time, however, that Edwards had taken time out for some altruism.
Braylon Edwards’ philanthropic endeavors and career highlights
In 2007, Brandon Edwards pledged to pay off the tuition fees of 100 eighth-graders in Cleveland High School, given they maintain good grades and perform required community service. Later in 2011, it was confirmed by Sporting News that Brandon had issued $10,000 scholarships to not 100 but 101 students, which equals $1.01M in total.
