NFL Hall of Famer Weighs in on Mitch Trubisky vs. Kenny Pickett Debate as Pittsburgh Steelers Suffer Two Back to Back Losses

The Hall of Famer running back, O.J. Simpson, seems to have a solution for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive woes. It’s a very short list, and it starts and ends at one thing: change the quarterback.
The Former LA Rams, and SF 49ers RB, insists that the Steelers should start rookie Kenny Pickett, over Mitch Trubisky, in the quarterback position. Simpson believes Trubisky is not the right person to take the franchise forward, and that Pickett will deliver better results.

“I don’t see these guys being inspired by their quarterback play,” Simpson said. “I don’t know what Kenny Pickett is able to do, but I’m willing to bet anybody that he’ll score more than four touchdowns in the next three games. [The] problem is Pittsburgh isn’t going to win any 14-10 games. They’re gonna have to score points to win, and I just don’t see that happening with Trubisky.”
‘There’s No Hope’: Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Paige Spiranac Predicts ‘Terrible Season’ for the Franchise
Simpson’s suggestion reflects what a lot of Steelers fans have been asking for a while. The Steelers‘ offense struggled against all three opponents this season, failing to score more than 20 points in regular time.
In addition, Trubisky has only managed to throw 62/103 for 569 yards, with 2 touchdowns and an interception. While it is not bad, it is certainly not enough for the Steelers, as evident in their total turnover of points. But the body language of the receivers is what piqued Simpson’s concern. “It just wasn’t good, especially Diontae Johnson,” O.J. said.
Simpson also believes that T.J. Watt’s absence is showing a profound impact on the team. Watt, who tore his pectoral muscle in week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals, is set to return to the team in around 6 weeks.

But it does not look like Steelers fans will have any respite soon. When asked if there will be a QB change, Steelers Head Coach, Mike Tomlin’s response was very clear.
“The answer to that question is definitely no,” Tomlin said. “I thought he made some plays, but we all collectively came up short and that’s how we measure performance. Winning is our business, and we did not handle business. So we don’t break that apart and look for feel good.”

Watch This Story: Pittsburgh Steelers get a new senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach
With the Steelers next facing the New York Jets on October 2nd. Tomlin and the rest of the team will be eagerly watching the Jets vs Bengals game tomorrow. The Jets do not have a very good defensive record this season, which the Steelers should be ideally looking to exploit. Will that happen with Trubisky at the helm, is a question that only time can answer.
