The ban of sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has taken the world by storm. The sprinter missed the Tokyo Olympics 2020 because of testing positive for chemicals found in marijuana. Moreover, the athlete spoke about using it to recover from the emotional trauma that she faced after losing her mother.
However, the US soccer star, Megan Rapinoe, promoted her CBD products. Significantly, Rapinoe and her sister’s CBD brand, Mendi, is being promoted to athletes in Tokyo.

The promotion caused outrage amongst fans and critics all over the world. Moreover, suggestions of double standards were thrown under the shade as comparisons to Richardson’s ban came into the limelight. Hence, many fans alleged hypocrisy in the situation regarding the ban of Sha’Carri, for the same incident. People let their hearts out on social media.

The incident happened after Rapinoe appeared on Forbes magazine for the promotion of her brand line, Mendi. While THC makes people temporarily high, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties. But both these substances have different biological effects on people.
Rapinoe stated how she used it for relaxation after a tiring day to relax her body and mind.
“It’s truly part of my entire day,” said Rapinoe.
Social Media criticizes Rapinoe
Many fans voiced their opinions on true injustice regarding the situation. While Richardson got banned for using a similar substance, the lack of action on Megan made her face the wrath of fans. Thus, the major issue came from questioning the consistency of bans regarding the use of cannabis products.

As many countries have imposed bans on cannabis, she resorts to gummies to keep her relaxed during the matches.
Despite all the issues, the US superstar looks to win medals for her country. She is one of the best soccer players in the USA’s history. The issues off-field do not seem to bother her. The focus on winning medals is what she wants to do for now.
