Soccer is arguably the second love of the Red Bull’s F1 veteran Sergio Perez. Before starting a carting career that eventually launched him to the F1 stage, Perez played soccer in Mexico and considered himself a ‘good striker.’ With such a deep connection with the sport, it is no surprise that the Mexican driver has crossed paths with Cristiano Ronaldo. Perez is highly impressed by the ‘great things‘ Ronaldo has done in life. As CR7 transcends soccer with his profound ‘social impact,’ the F1 star badly wants him to debut on his podcast, should he ever launch one!

This is not the first time Sergio Perez has referred to Cristiano Ronaldo in a conversation. He once even likened himself to the Portuguese skipper. Now, he admires the 5x-Ballon d’Or winner for being an example to others.

Sergio Perez had a free-wheeling conversation with Tom Clarkson in a recent episode of F1: Beyond the Grid podcast. Towards the end, Clarkson asked who would Perez invite on the debut episode of his podcast, if he started one. “Well, I’ve to go big, so I’ll invite Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Perez. He added that he met CR7 earlier in Madrid.

It’s just people that have done great things with their lives, and have a good impact on society. I think it’s important to look up at people that are not just successful but are good for us. Good examples to look up,” the Red Bull star added. CR7 has indeed set great examples for people ever since he became a sporting superstar. The 5x Champions League winner often earmarks a remarkable sum every year for charities.

Besides, he has refused to get tattoos because he won’t be able to donate blood often. This Good Samaritan act has even inspired Perez’s peer Max Verstappen. The Mexican F1 icon also briefly recalled how his meeting with Ronaldo went.

Clarkson jokingly asked Sergio Perez if he told Ronaldo he was a great striker. “No, I didn’t. He’s friends with one of my friends. He’s a good guy. I remember I met him many years ago in Madrid.” It is well known that Perez is friends with Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, a Mexican soccer veteran. Notably, Chicharito played with Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid. Hence, Chicharito is probably the friend Perez was referring to.

The 35-year-old might not have told CR7 he was a great striker, but he compared himself to the latter once. He came up with an interesting analogy. In terms of achievements, he likened his teammate Max Verstappen to Lionel Messi. And Perez likened himself to Ronaldo. Considering the honors these superstars have achieved in their stellar careers, the analogy was quite on point.
