Conor McGregor Claims He Will Fight for the Title After His Return, Aims to Switch to Boxing Before Retirement

Conor McGregor suffered a gruesome leg injury at UFC 264 in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. Ever since then, fans are wondering who will ‘Mystic Mac’ fight on his return. Moreover, the crucial question that arises is whether he will make a jump to boxing, considering his leg injury.
The UFC 264 headliner had an anti-climactic end. Because of McGregor suffering a leg injury, he could no longer continue the bout. As a result, Poirier won the fight via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) in the first round. However, McGregor refused to acknowledge Poirier’s victory.

In his octagon interview, the ‘Notorious’ one said – “This is not over”. It just means that McGregor is aiming for a fourth fight against Poirier to put this rivalry to rest. Meanwhile, Poirier holds the #1 spot in the UFC lightweight rankings. So, a fight between the ‘Diamond’ and the current UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira makes more sense.

Recently, McGregor made a Tweet telling fans that he is open to a ‘QnA’ session. One fan asked whether he will consider going full time as a professional boxer. That is when the ‘Notorious’ one revealed that he is aiming for a title fight on his return while hinting at becoming a full-time boxer.
McGregor said – “Possibly. The leg tho will be more than equipped to kick. I am billi walking straight to a title shot on my return and it sickens the bums of this business. Which is the real reason these constant disrespectful comments come by way. God bless them”.

As of August 2021, McGregor has only had one professional boxing match to date. He fought against the former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather in what would be infamously known as the ‘Money Fight’ or ‘May-Mac’.

McGregor was the aggressor for the first half of the fight. However, he appeared to be exhausted in the later rounds. As a result, Mayweather immediately took this opportunity and turned the tide. The bout resulted in Mayweather winning via TKO in the tenth round.
