Tony Ferguson’s return after his devastating loss to Justin Gaethje back at UFC 249 did not go as per plan. Charles Oliveira put up a performance of a lifetime against the very dangerous and former interim champion to cement his status as a top lightweight contender.
It was disheartening for many fight fans to see the former interim champion lose his second straight fight. Needless to say, the Brazilian fighter looked extremely impressive against Ferguson. He came almost unscathed against a dangerous opponent who has caused great damage to his opponents in his previous outings inside the Octagon.

Meanwhile, the winner could be looking to fight for the championship belt. Since ‘El Cucuy‘ was coming off a loss against Justin Gaethje, it hardly makes sense for the UFC to award him a title opportunity in his next bout.
The lightweight division looks completely packed and it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the Brazilian fighter. Does Charles Oliveira have what it takes to reign as the UFC lightweight champion?
