Apart from the amazing round of fights that went down, there were quite a few other incidents at UFC 287 that had left fans buzzing. One of these incidents that went viral was the altercation between Jorge Masvidal and Kevin Holland that took place in the fighter’s hotel before the event.

While nothing untoward took place as both were pulled away after a small verbal back and forth, it was UFC President Dana White‘s refusal to allow any questions on the topic that ended up creating more intrigue for fans. Following the successful event, and his loss to Gilbert Burns, Masvidal finally opened up about the incident in an interview with MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani. The 38-year-old, while doing so, also happened to dismiss Holland as someone he would not even consider talking about.

Making his first appearance after his retirement at UFC 287, ‘Gamebred’ recalled the altercation that took place before the massive fight card. Despite agreeing to answer Helwani’s question on what took place that led to the scuffle, the 38-year-old first claimed that he didn’t “give a flying f**k” about Holland. Stating that he wouldn’t choose to give any sort of attention to the 30-year-old, he then revealed the events that led to the altercation.

“He called me a girl, he misgendered me, straight up misgendered me. He said it himself that he misgendered me, and I wouldn’t stand for that.” He explained.

As per Masvidal, this wouldn’t have taken place if they were not around security personnel. Knowing the type of personality that he is, the 38-year-old claimed he would have handled it in a different manner if it was only him and Holland during the incident.

“He would not dare misgender me if it was just me and him. Because I’d get my point across very swiftly to him,” he claimed.

For the MMA veteran, the altercation was something that he didn’t want to give much air time. Dismissing Holland, he then went on to make one final diss at the welterweight.

“I don’t really want to talk about this guy bro, because he’s a bum,” Masvidal explained.

Dana White earlier shut down questions on the subject during media day

Following the scuffle, in no time, clips of the incident started doing the rounds online. Naturally, questions about it were raised by reporters during the pre-fight press conference, which interestingly was shut down by the UFC president, resulting in quite a backlash from fans.

For Dana White, as he explained later on, this was because he didn’t want fighters to get involved in any sort of backstage brawls, which could have jeopardized the event in itself.
