Jorge Masvidal Narrates the Moment Where Dana White Had to Intervene to Stop Colby Covington Fight at a UFC Fight

Seemingly inseparable friends Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington have now turned into bitter rivals. Sanctioned to make legalized robberies in the UFC with their flair for fighting and entertainment, the pair could pass for a modern yet platonic Bonnie and Clyde. Until now.
Masvidal and Covington’s journey in the UFC together has been nothing but wholesome. The chain of events leading up to their fight at UFC 272 is something that might be a lot more deep-rooted than we think.

From being best mates and training every day, their relationship has gone to the point of no return, where they cannot even stand the sight of seeing each other.
In an interview with Marc Raimond of ESPN, Jorge Masvidal let loose about the whole Covington situation and the chain of events that led to this. He also highlighted an incident where they almost fought each other post a confrontation, which had to be stopped by UFC President Dana White.

When Marc Raimond asked Masvidal about his confrontation with Covington at a UFC event, Masvidal elucidated the following. “I was at a UFC event when Nate Diaz was fighting Pettis… Guess what I see there? Colby. And I haven’t seen him in like months because he’s been traveling, I’ve been at the gym… So I finally see him, and I just like tap him on the shoulder. I asked him to go, “Bro, what’s all that talking about? We’re both men, man. You got my phone number. Why don’t we go outside and just talk like men, you know?…”
Talking about Covington‘s reaction, Masvidal added, “And he freaked out, he’s like,”no bro. You’re trying to fight, bro.” We’re grown-ass men. What are you doing? What’s wrong with him?... I see him waving down Dana White and I go, ‘Nah. There’s no way.'”

With things escalating, Masvidal highlighted when the UFC president stepped in to resolve it. “Dana White calls me over, he goes… “Seriously, don’t fight here at the event.” I’m like, Bro. All I wanted to do was talk to the guy outside, bro. Now he’s made a problem.”

‘Gamebred’ and his history of violence
Fights backstage and in events aren’t something new for Masvidal. Jorge Masvidal walked up to fellow welterweight Leon Edwards during his post-fight interview. He had a small word with him before unleashing a volley of punches on the latter, leaving Edwards needing medical attention.
It was a responsible act on Dana White’s part to break it up and warn them before things got out of hand. A fight breaking out in the crowd stands between fighters is not a good look for the promotion.
With that being said, though, Masvidal has been fighting all his life. There have been many instances of street fights and quarrels throughout his upbringing.

UFC 272 – Camaraderie and betrayal
No matter what happens at UFC 272, Masvidal and Covington are sure to give it their all in the octagon. The bad blood between both of these fighters seems to be unresolvable without violence. Wanting to beat the living daylights out of each other seems to be their chosen path.

The hype around this matchup is insane because of the point where this fight emanated in the first place. Any sort of quarrel or fight is sure to be on a big scale as it first began from the point of friendship and loyalty.
