Tony Ferguson Losses: Who Has the UFC Veteran Lost to and How Long Is His Current Losing Streak?

Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is set to fight against rising star Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett at UFC 296: Edwards vs. Covington. Ferguson was once the most feared fighter in the lightweight division, even winning the interim title back in UFC 216. But that was back in 2017. How is the former lightweight interim champ now?

Ferguson is, by no means, a bad fighter. He has a record of 26 wins and 9 losses. Earning 13 of them by way of knockout and 8 of the 26 wins by submission. However, the lightweight had 9 losses on his record and is on a six-fight losing streak. Here is who the lightweight has lost to in his career.

Ferguson started off his professional MMA career in 2008. His first loss came quite early in his career, as he lost against Karen Darabedyan in the fifth match of his career. He went on to win his next three but lost to Jamie Toney in the first round at NFAMMA.

‘El Cucuy’ won 7 straight after his loss against Toney, even winning The Ultimate Fighter 13 in the process. However, he lost to Michael Johnson at the UFC Fox: Diaz vs. Miller card on May 6, 2012. But then, turning the tides, Ferguson would go on an indestructible 12-fight win streak. Even winning an interim belt in the process.

His last win came against Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 in 2019. But then, Ferguson would embark on his losing journey. He would go on to lose against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249: Ferguson vs. Gaethje on May 10, 2020. Ferguson lost to Charles Oliveira next at UFC 256 on December 13, 2020. He lost again to Beneil Dariush at UFC 272 on May 16, 2021. ‘El Cucuy’ would face Michael Chandler next at UFC 274 on May 8, 2022. He performed well in the fight, even knocking Chandler down in the first, but would get KO’d in the second.

Ferguson would fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 279 in 2022 after an apparent switch-up in the card. Ferguson would lose to Diaz in the Stockton native’s retirement fight. His most recent fight came against Bobby Green at UFC 291 on July 30, 2023.

Tony Ferguson is going up against Paddy Pimblett with a six-fight losing streak. On the contrary, Pimblett is on a 3-fight win streak in the UFC. However, some fighters and fans are still hoping for Ferguson to pull off a win.

UFC veteran and former opponent Bobby Green picked Ferguson to win the fight against Pimblett. Green even went on to defend Ferguson against people suggesting retirement by saying that Ferguson should retire when he wants to and no one should tell him any different.

He went on to share his experience fighting Tony Ferguson in their match. He claimed that Ferguson still had a fighting spirit, and he believed that ‘El Cucuy’ would beat Pimblett in their match.
