“We’re Breaking Our Record for PPV Buys” – Dana White on the Amazing Year UFC Has Had in 2021

Dana White, in a recent appearance on the Jim Rome podcast, dropped some amazing news about the UFC. Speaking to Rome, Dana said, “This year we’re breaking our record for pay-per-view buys. I think we’re gonna do something like 8.4 or 8.5 million pay-per-view buys this year.”
The UFC President was referring to the total number of PPV views sold over all the pay-per-view events that happened in 2021 so far.

The UFC has done 12 pay-per-view events this year. The biggest of which was Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3. The event organized at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas had around 1.8 million buys globally.
Going into December, the UFC is set to organize one last pay-per-view event. UFC 269, Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier will be the final PPV event of the year and has the potential to be a massive event for the company.

Dana White talks about the future of global streaming
During the course of the interview, White also made some comments about streaming and broadcasting future events globally. He said, “Now with streaming, we’re getting to a place where, in the next 6-7 years, like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox, there’s gonna be that equivalent but globally.”

Dana White says companies like Amazon, YouTube, and ESPN are making big moves in the international streaming space. He believes that once this international streaming infrastructure is built, he will be able to smash all current PPV records.

He says, “Once this streaming thing happens, look at the ceiling on this thing. I could do a fight finally where the entire world can watch it at the same time on the same channel.”

White also talked about a prediction he made 20 years ago when he started the business. He believed MMA will be the biggest sport in the world and that the UFC would be in every country. In 2021, looking at how far the sport and the UFC have come, it is plausible that Dana’s words come to fruition.
