The Special Olympics New Jersey is committed to bringing out the best out of the athletes and they have a special year planned for 2024. With the nationwide basketball leagues set to commence in January, the SONJ also has skill development programs scheduled to help the budding basketball players of the state hone their competency. Only days ago, the Denver Nuggets gave Special Olympics basketball players a chance to learn from the best in the country. Now, the SONJ is set to host more such athletes in Berkley for over two months.

Special Olympics basketball players get a chance to get better
The January team meetings of the SONJ are aimed at developing the skills of children with special needs between the ages of 8 and 14. The Special Olympics meetings will be open to all and will be held every Monday from January 8th to March 25. The CBW Elementary School Gym will be a spot bubbling with energy and excitement as the children gather in the auditorium every Monday to take in more knowledge on how to place their names among the country’s elites.

The flyer unveiled by the SONJ for the occasion reads, “This is a skill development team“. The flyer says the team meetings will focus solely on basketball for the winter season and will have tailored programs to make sure every athlete can learn according to their own pace. However, SONJ assures the participants that the program will not be just another routine (and boring) training session.

Instead, it promises to be “a LOT OF FUN exercising and developing skills” with friends by their side. In order to participate in the program, the children will have to undergo a physical examination to determine their skill levels. Ocean County’s budding Special Olympics stars can register through the official SONJ website for the program.
