The developers have brought about a lot of changes in various aspects of the game, even to the extent of changing the meta to an extent. Now, this is something that makes Valorant one of the more stable competitive FPS titles out there.

One of the major changes Riot made to the game with this patch is in the ‘end of the round economy’. This is how the patch notes articulate these changes:

  • Attackers who lose but survive the entire round without planting the Spike receive a reduced number of credits (1,000).
  • Defenders who lose but survive the entire round after the Spike has detonated also receive reduced credits (1,000).
  • Dying to the Spike will no longer count as a death in KDA statistics.
  • Additional economic information added as a tooltip when hovering over the exclamation mark next to “Min Next Round” in the shop.

How will a change in the ‘end of round economy’ affect Valorant?

Players acquainted with the game know how a change in the amount of credit available at the end of a round can affect the entire meta. Let us consider the first two points.

Clearly, this move will discourage players from sitting out entire rounds or camping in order to survive. A converse way of looking at it would be that this change will now encourage more players to attempt clutches on the enemy or try to salvage the round by themselves.

In addition to this, a change in credits will also change the choice of weapons in the round that follows. This will directly prevent the players from farming during rounds so that they can buy the Operator. So, by extension, this move will directly hit the Op meta as well.

This seems to be an extension of the efforts devs have been making in order to nerf the Op and break the meta around the weapon. Currently, given everything, the Operator sniper rifle might prove to be a risky choice for players. Riot has always been good at employing such methods to prevent saturation in the game.
