“Goal Is to Just Win Grand Slams”: Coco Gauff Remains Unbothered About Rankings Ahead of French Open 2021

Coco Gauff, the young American tennis sensation, had a tremendous run on the European clay-court swing this year. Gauff won the WTA Parma Open, and reached the Rome Masters final. With back-to-back victories, the American reached a career high 25th in women’s singles rankings.
Gauff also defeated the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari, Amanda Anismova, etc. on the red dirt this year. The American quickly made adjustments to her game and remained dominant in longer rallies by sliding well on-court. But, Gauff also remained aggressive from the baseline, and hit a lot of winners.

Coco Gauff intends to win more grand slams in the future
Having shown an unexpected improvement on clay, the American is one of the main players to look forward to on the women’s singles draw at French Open. In the pre-tournament press conference, Gauff spoke about her rise to the top and her imminent desire to win a grand slam. The youngster also mentioned how she gets to know about her ranking changes.
“Honestly, I find out my ranking through Instagram posts. If I reach a career high, I find out through USTA or WTA posting about it. I don’t keep track of rankings. Only, you know. cause of the Olympics, I was keeping track of it a little bit more than I normally would do“, mentioned Gauff.

The American also kept her priorities straight and fixed as she said that her only intention is to win as many grand slams as possible.
“Yeah, for me ,like, ranking is like, its cool to have a higher ranking. But, that’s not my goal. You know, being number one would be cool. Don’t get me wrong. But, my goal is to win grand slams, and I am sure with the grand slams, the number one ranking will come”, Gauff concluded.

With an intense persona on-court, Gauff makes it clear that she means business when it comes to winning titles. This burning desire to win titles consistently will make the American improve her game, and stun top players on every surface.
