Dwayne Johnson vs Roman Reigns “Yet” to Finalize, Cody Rhodes’ ‘Story’ in Peril

Dwayne Johnson has a reputation for blasting through the doors of WWE unannounced. The Rock is always welcome by the WWE Universe for both great mic work and for putting “boots to a**es”. But, this time fans are conflicted over Johnson’s decision of just unabashedly walking in. Especially when they desperately want a Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania 40.

The WWE Universe has been waiting for more than a year to see The American Nightmare complete his story. They made Triple H give them his word that Cody Rhodes would get what he deserved. But the entry of Dwayne Johnson seems to have caused a change in that order. However, a social media post suggests that Rhodes can still get his chance. In fact, The Rock and Roman Reigns brawl might not happen at all.

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes had a great year in 2023. Rhodes won several fan polls for the year and also fought the highest number of matches in the promotion, winning most of them. All that was left now, was a rematch against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 for the WWE title. However, Dwayne Johnson entered the scene like a wild card and stirred things up.

Giving an update on the WrestleMania booking of Dwayne Johnson. As per Dave Meltzer‘s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, “According to WWE sources, The Rock has not officially signed a deal to wrestle for WWE.” While this looked like good news to Cody Rhodes fans, the latter half of the tweet reinstated the ambiguity of things.

Meltzer further stated, “But the key word said about that is “Yet.” It’s known that he is willing and said to be wanting to do a match with Roman Reigns and is strong on doing it at WrestleMania, but that is not locked in as of this week.” Meltzer also talked about an insider report on The Rock’s approach towards the match.

He reported, “One person in WWE noted that The Rock was “headstrong” about wrestling Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.” This suggests that while Dwayne Johnson is mentally in this match, he hasn’t professionally locked things down with WWE. But is this match something that fans want?

The WWE Universe has been demanding a face-off between Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns for a very long time. Particularly, fans wish to see The Rock take out Reigns and show him who rightfully holds the title of The Tribal Chief. Thus, while fans want Johnson to fight Reigns in a tribal combat match like Jey Uso, a potential WWE title match isn’t on their wishlist. Especially if it comes at the cost of Rhodes finishing his story.

As Dave Meltzer said, the keyword here is “yet” and anything is possible right now. News reports also said that Dwayne Johnson could fight Roman Reigns at the Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia
