Vince McMahon is rightly credited for bringing wrestling to the forefront. He has been quite influential in spreading the wings of sports entertainment in the global market. As is well known, before his intervention, professional wrestling was divided into multiple territories. However, the former chairman is not an expert on all combat sports. He once rejected the MMA juggernaut UFC.

McMahon has overseen one of the most insane moments in the history of the business. From the highs of The Attitude Era to the lows of The Drug Scandal in the 90s, he has truly seen it all. It can be said he is a master when it comes to knowing the WWE. The same cannot be said about his understanding of the UFC, though. According to senior journalist Dave Meltzer, the former boss was not too pleased after watching the 2007 fight between Quinton Jackson and Chuck Liddell.

Meltzer posted a tweet that mentioned a story about McMahon from the past in response to a request from a fan. He posted, “Yes Vince watched that show and thought there was no future in that sport because you can’t fix the outcomes for the right guy to win.” There is no doubt that McMahon loves pulling the strings to determine the outcome; a major difference between sports entertainment, which is largely scripted, and MMA, which is unscripted.

This means that a UFC match can finish at any instant, unlike the WWE, which has everything planned. And the aforementioned bout finished early with a first-round knockout for Jackson.

Controversies are never far from McMahon

The long-standing head of the Stanford-based promotion was allegedly involved in a hush money scandal last year. The severity of the allegations meant that he had to retire from the company. McMahon has since returned to the board of directors earlier this year. This has meant the departure of daughter Stephanie McMahon from the board. Triple H continues to serve in his position with the company.

Vince McMahon has spent a large amount of his life building up wrestling into the force it is today. Although Hulk Hogan and The Great One Dwayne Johnson are self-made stars, he does have a small role in their success. However, his propensity to have things his way has not been hidden, something that UFC does not allow, and that’s why McMahon rejected the product.
