Floyd Mayweather Jr. has opined about the possible reason for Errol Spence Jr facing the crushing defeat at the hands of Terence Crawford. The two Welterweight champions battled it out in Las Vegas, Nevada by the end of July to see the ultimate unification of all titles in the weight division. The fight that seemed heavily in control of ‘Bud’ since the beginning, saw his opponent bow to defeat in the ninth round by knockout.
As boxing enthusiasts chime in to analyze the entire matchup, many boxing legends have also taken on this job. One of them is ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather, who thinks it was the wrong weight division for ‘The Truth’ to have fought against his opponent. He further spoke about why he remained reluctant to predict the winner of the bout ahead of it. He expressed his fondness for both fighters and said he did not want them to clash. However, that’s not how boxing really functions, does it?

Fight in Favor of Errol Spence Jr. if he went at Middleweight
In a conversation with FightHype, the retired champion spoke in detail about why he thinks Errol did not secure the titles. He thinks it was the wrong weight class for him. He says, “If I was training him or I was in his corner. I don’t think he should be fighting at 147 lbs at all. I don’t think he should be fighting at 154 lbs. Really, I think he should be fighting at 160 or 168 lbs. That’s just my honest opinion.”
As Floyd spoke about the match with an acumen stemming from his years of experience in the boxing ring, fans were quick to chime in with their take on what he had to say.
CombatDigest says that the fight was inevitable and it had to happen given the stakes that were on the table.
This fight was too big to not happen and Spence took the risk of making it for all the marbles at 147 as it should have been. Can we just give him credit for that atleast Floyd?

Hamed seemed to simplify what Floyd was suggesting.
Typical Floyd in other words “Spence should have ducked Crawford”

Abe on the other hand seemed to be a little done with the criticism that Errol has been subjected to since his defeat against Bud.
Some of the comments I swear lol. So now if Terence beats him at 154, it won't matter because even at that weight it's not good enough? It's never good enough lmao. Oh boxing.

Brandon agreed with Floyd. He too believes that Errol fits better in a much higher weight class.
Bud says he walks around at 160-165. Spence walks around at least 175-180…147 is definitely too small for him. No excuses for the fight though, Bud washed him.

WordSmith further pointed out that Errol has remained in the welterweight division for over a decade now. He suggested that the boxer had to move up in weight a while ago.
He's definitely right. EJ should be a 3 or 4 division champ by now. Staying at 147 for a decade plus was silly, and fighting a p4p fighter at 147, 11 years in was a dumb decision outside of the money. You need to be at your best when you fight (other) great fighters.

As we get into a deeper understanding of what worked and did not on the 29th of July, it becomes important for us to acknowledge how impressively the two fighters showcased their prowess in the ring. Terence Crawford of course went home with all four titles on his shoulder. But Errol made a name for himself by defending himself and not tapping out until the end. Further, these are the kind of fights that make boxing the enthralling sport that it is.
Now, as he invokes the rematch clause in their contract, he has expressed the desire to fight Bud in the proceeding weight class. However, the decision to do so lies in the hands of the winner of the bout- Bud.
