However, it doesn’t faze Benavidez’s father, Jose Benavidez Sr. Not long after ‘Cinnamon’ schooled Jermell Charlo, WBC announced ‘The Mexican Monster’ would be Canelo’s mandatory title defense. 

While that fight is expected to unfold sometime in the coming year, Jose Benavidez can’t be bothered. It’s worth mentioning that ‘The Mexican Monster’ is about to enter the square circle against Demetrius Andrade on 25 November. If David fails to win the upcoming fight, he can say bye-bye to the Canelo fight. Meanwhile, during an interview with Fight Hub TV, Benavidez Sr. reveals the reason why he is not interested in the potential fight between Canelo and ‘Bud.’

David Benavidez claims Canelo Alvarez will have to vacate his belt eventually

When questioned about his thoughts on the potential fight, Benavidez Sr. claimed he is unbothered by it. “If that happens, I’m not interested in that fight. I think a lot of people are not interested,” said Jose. He went on to predict the outcome of the fight by highlighting the Canelo vs. Charlo fight. “The same thing is going to happen that happened with Charlo,” Jose told Fight Hub.

Moreover, Jose decided to highlight the similarities between Jermell and Crawford. “I think Charlo is bigger, I think Charlo is stronger, and look what happened at the end of the day,” said Jose. Turning to Canelo, Jose suggested he could do whatever and fight whoever, but it didn’t interest him. According to Jose, Canelo will have to vacate the title sooner rather than later. “Soon, I think Canelo will have to leave that belt,” said Jose.

Eddie Hearn’s pick for defeating ‘Cinnamon’

Canelo might have put down all who came before him recently. However, Eddie Hearn has a good feeling about his choice of fighter for defeating the Mexican superstar. While appearing in an interview with Fight Hype, Eddie Hearn named a fighter between David Benavidez, Demetrius Andrade, and David Morrell.

“So the answer is, who could beat Canelo? I think Benavidez gives him a good fight,” said Hearn. Turning to Andrade, Hearn suggested Andrade might not be able to match up to Canelo’s power. “I just feel Demetrius at 168 can’t necessarily stand up to the firepower,” said Hearn. While Hearn believes David has what it takes, people will have to wait until next year to witness the fight.
