Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, a potential clash for the ages, are on separate trajectories, leaving fight night enthusiasts feeling shortchanged. Benavidez, the mandatory challenger for Canelo’s title for a staggering three years, recently spoke on the Fresh and Fit Podcast, pulling no punches. “I just want to give the best fights to the fans,” he declared, lamenting the fight’s prolonged stall.
David Benavidez then upped the ante, accusing Canelo of demanding an exorbitant purse – “150, 200 million” – as a stalling tactic. However, with both fighters seemingly on different paths, the dream matchup fades further into the distance. So much so that even Marcos Maidana refrained from talking too much about that fight. When asked on FightHype, he said, “Honestly, I don’t know. I would rather not comment on it because I don’t know.”
