Jake Paul attended the WBA Centennial Convention held in Orlando, Florida as a special guest back in December 2022. The event was organized at the auspicious celebration of achieving the 100-year milestone by the WBA since its establishment. Jake Paul met a lot of famous boxers at the convention including Dmitry Bivol, one of the two boxers to defeat Canelo Alvarez. Recently, Chael Sonnen refreshed everybody’s memories about this incident. He mentioned this incident when he was talking about the possibility of Tyson Fury going up against Jon Jones in a fight.

Chael Sonnen started talking about the dreads of boxing as a sport. And according to Sonnen, boxing is not in a good condition right now, and more so the organizations that are supposed to be the controlling factor of the sport aren’t really helping the case that much.

Chael Sonnen talks about how the boxing world hasn’t given enough credit to the leadership of Tyson Fury. He said, “They don’t realize what shambles they’re in.” Then he mentions the WBA incident that happened when Jake Paul was at their convention. As they had a custom belt specially made for him, Jake Paul refused to accept it as he told them that he wanted to earn such an achievement. He said that he needed to prove to himself that he deserved such an honor.

Sonnen refreshed the minds of boxing fans with this memory. This is not the first time Sonnen has mentioned ‘The Problem Child’, he also put out a video with his opinions, on the altercation of Jake Paul with Floyd Mayweather.

“They don’t realize that WBA got Jake Paul to show up to a press conference and then made a belt for him. Do you guys know that? They tried to present it to him, they said all the words, they tried to get, Jake said no I haven’t earned that, no,” said Sonnen.

He further continued, “I wouldn’t have [respected you] if I’d known you just make belts up and hand them out because a famous guy shows up to your press conference, was a humiliating moment in boxing.” And then in the same video, he moves on from dire states of boxing and mentions how Jon Jones is a more attractive prospect for  Tyson Fury than Francis Ngannou.

Sonnen also further stated that boxing doesn’t know what situation they’re in, they’re quite oblivious and gradually pushing their sport to further declination. They should try to learn something from Tyson Fury in that particular aspect.

Tyson Fury’s next opponent is a topic of discussion that everyone is currently pondering their minds over. The most potential, currently, is Oleksandr Usyk. Before this, he planned to fight Anthony Joshua, but the incentive was gone for Fury when the latter lost against the Ukrainian boxer.

Meanwhile, Fury was also in the talks of fighting Francis Ngannou but that also doesn’t seem to be happening any time sooner. ‘The Gypsy King’ proposed a hybrid match with Ngannou, with lighter gloves. Chael Sonnen then stated that Tyson Fury may be more interested in fighting with Jon Jones as he’s the belt owner now.
