Canelo Alvarez is a boxing powerhouse, who has dominated the ring, capturing titles across multiple weight divisions and etching his name as a relentless fighter. He’s even surpassed rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the sheer number of opponents conquered. Even when it comes to financial knockouts, Canelo is well on his way to the top. Celebrity Net Worth has ranked him third among the richest boxers of all time. However, that is not all.

According to Sportico, Canelo finds himself at 37th position with an inflation estimated earning of $640 million ($550 Million non adjusted earnings) in ‘Richest Athletes in the World of All Time’ list. Not only that but the Mexican Icon also left the world shocked after he made his way to the fifth position on Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes last year. He earned $10 million off-field, which is only a tenth of what he cashed out through his boxing fight purses. As per Forbes Richest Athletes list of 2023, the 33-YO bagged $110 million in on-field earnings.

As of now, Alvarez is set to face Jaime Munguia at T-Mobile arena on Cinco De Mayo weekend. This is the first time since Julio César Chávez Jr. in 2017 he will be fighting another Mexican boxer. With that in mind, let’s check out how is he faring financially in 2024 so far, along with the account of his biggest paydays over the years.

His climb to riches wasn’t without its gloves-off moments. In 2018, he signed a record-breaking $365 million deal with DAZN, promising $35 million per fight. However, after feeling shortchanged, Canelo threw in the towel in 2020, suing for a whopping $280 million in unpaid earnings.

Despite the legal tussle, his career continued to flourish. Thanks to his victories and lucrative sponsorships, he landed another fight deal. This time, Canelo signed a $100 Million+ 3-fight deal with PBC. However, it also had its fair share of controversies.

Akin to the DAZN deal, Canelo faced issues with PBC as well. After securing a sensational victory over Jermell Charlo, the first fight of his PBC deal, the Guadalajara native reportedly parted ways due to a disagreement over the second fight. He was supposed to fight Charlo’s twin Jermall on Cinco De Mayo weekend, which PBC failed to negotiate and help come to fruition. It led the Mexican Icon contractually explore other options.

Later, PBC made up for their failure with a Jaime Munguia fight this Cinco de Mayo weekend – which will officially be the second fight of their mutually agreed contract.

With each fight and endorsement deal, Canelo cements his place among boxing’s financial heavyweights. So, the next time you see him in the ring, remember, those punches don’t just land blows, they land big bucks too. Here’s a peek into some of the biggest paychecks he has made through his fights.
