Garth Stein’s famous quote, “No race has ever been won in the first corner, but many have been lost there” came to fruition at the Mexican Grand Prix. And unfortunately, it was the home hero, Sergio Perez, who lost one of the most important races of his F1 career, at turn 1.
With a thunderous start right off the line, Checo, Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen went three-wide at turn 1. Perez ended up getting the worst of it by ending up in a crash, and his RB19 ultimately retired.

It’s quite clear that this crash will hurt Checo a lot. Especially considering the insane start he got at the start of the race. But unfortunately for him, going three-wide at turn-1, that too in lap 1 was bound to be risky. He ended up getting the worst of it. And as if all this wasn’t enough, Daniel Ricciardo finishing P7 made things worse. Making Checo’s seat at Red Bull under serious threat.
