The Sunday night game between the Houston Rockets and Milwaukee Bucks produced one of the most intense clashes in recent times. Even though the Bucks led the scoreboard throughout the game, the Rockets’ fighting spirit to chase it down made the game more intense. However, it was the double ejection during the late fourth quarter that made headlines.

The Rockets were way behind the Bucks’ total until the end of the third quarter and almost caught up with them in the fourth quarter. But the final push eventually led to a controversial call to eject Dillon Brooks and head coach Ime Udoka together, followed by four free-throws for the Bucks. After that, there was no room left for the Rockets to make any sort of a comeback.

Refs toss out Dillon Brooks and Ime Udoka together

The fourth-quarter ejection was the second time Dillon Brooks was held up in the ref’s decision on Sunday night. In the third quarter, the game paused for a bit when Brooks elbowed Bucks’ Pat Connaughton in his lay-up attempt. The refs surprised the NBA world by calling it an offensive foul instead of a flagrant foul.

While Brooks got away with a call in the previous quarter, he wasn’t lucky the second time. Moreover, he dragged Ime Udoka along with him this time.

With less than 40 seconds left in the game, Brooks deflected a pass from Bucks forward Khris Middleton. He then went on to save the ball from going out of bounds. However, in that attempt, it seemed like he was pushed by Middleton as he went out of bounds. So naturally, he expected a foul to be called against the Bucks’ player for pushing him. But surprisingly, he heard no whistle. When he resisted the no-call, it was then that the referee blew the whistle and called Dillon Brooks for a flopping foul.

Brooks protested the call as he felt that Middleton should have been called for a foul for pushing him out of bounds. As he argued with the ref, he received another technical and was ejected. Replays showed that he was indeed pushed. Just as he was leaving the court, there was another whistle and this time, it was Ime Udoka who got ejected as he went on to argue with the ref for ejecting the team’s forward.

At that crucial juncture, the Bucks were 9 points ahead of the visitors and Damian Lillard received four free throws following the double-ejection. The first foul led to two free throws, followed by another for the technical foul that led to Brooks’ ejection. Finally, one more free throw was awarded for the technical foul leading to Udoka’s ejection. So a total of four free-throw attempts out of which, Lillard missed one and landed three into the basket.

Interestingly, it was the second ejection for Udoka as a coach within a month’s time. Earlier he was ejected for engaging in a verbal altercation with LeBron James. Leaving the strange call aside, let’s find out more about the intense contest.

Bucks take home a hard-fought victory

A few days back, it was Giannis Antetokounmpo, who dropped his career-high score of 64 against the Indiana Pacers and stole the limelight. However, in the next two games, it was Damian Lillard. He led the team tonight with 39 points along with 11 assists.

On the other hand, the Greek Freak produced a franchise record for most rebounds with 7165, beating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had 7161 rebounds for the Milwaukee side.

From the Rockets’ perspective, Alperen Sengun and Fred VanVleet stood out the most with 20 and 22 points, respectively. Even though everyone contributed equally, the team lacked the X factor to outscore the mighty Bucks.
