“Going to Sting’: Kevin Durant Expresses Disappointment Over Decision to Bar Fans from Tokyo Olympics

The Tokyo Summer Games, after a year-long postponement, are finally happening. However, the increasing covid cases in the city have forced the government to bar spectators from entering the Olympic village. This has led to crowd-loving athletes like Nick Kyrgios pulling out of the event and Kevin Durant showing his disappointment.
KD was in such tremendous form in the 2020-21 season, it was a no-brainer that he would play in the Olympics. When his extra-large shoe forced him out of the playoff race, Team USA gave him an opportunity to leave that misfortune behind. But now that the games are a couple of weeks away, the star shared his only regret.

Kevin Durant wanted the audience in the stands
In a recent interview, the 32-YO shared how the recent update became a cause of displeasure for him. He expressed, “I was definitely disappointed once I heard that, but I understand, you know, we already pushed the games back a year, so we don’t want to cause any more trouble with COVID.”
Earlier in January 2021, Kevin Durant had missed four regular season games because of coming in contact with a covid positive. So he definitely understands how mishandeling the pandemic can impact the worldly event. But after playing in front of a crazy Barclays Center (NY) crowd, the star will surely feel a void.

As the 2x NBA Champion added, “It brings a different energy, the crowd. Fans from all over the world supporting their teams and their countries. That’s going to be the part that’s going to sting a bit, but it’s still an honor and a pleasure to go out there and represent your country and to do it on a big stage.”

KD is already trash-talking with his Olympics opponents
It is obvious that various NBA players from different national teams will take part and represent their country. Interestingly, Kevin Durant will face fellow teammate Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (TLC) in Team USA’s opening game against France.

The 11x All-Star accepted that he had already initiated the trash talk when he revealed, “I can’t wait. I’ve definitely talked my s–t to TLC a couple times about how he can’t guard me and about how I lock him up on defense. So I can’t wait to talk even more s–t once I see him with his national team.”
It’s going to be coach Gregg Popovich’s biggest test because the French side will boast Rudy Gobert (Jazz), Nicolas Batum (Clippers), Frank Ntilikana (Knicks), and Evan Fournier (Celtics) among other NBA players.
