The expectations were high as the Golden State Warriors entered this season. A miracle title run in 2022 seemed to be the rebirth of their dynasty. However, the story hasn’t been a fairytale ride so far. The Stephen Curry-led side has a record of 11-11 so far this season, certainly unfit for the defending champs. In times of struggle, there is a chance the Bay may look to turn back the clock. Notably, the Warriors could look to reunite with one of the most lethal scorers in the game, Kevin Durant.

The Slim Reaper spent three seasons as a part of the Golden State Warriors. In a highly scrutinized move, he left his boyhood franchise, the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the record-breaking Warriors. It was here that KD would become the catalyst for two championships residing in the Bay area. He won back-to-back Finals MVP awards and solidified his legacy in the NBA. However, since then, the 12-time All-Star has struggled to win with his current team, the Brooklyn Nets.

Dark times seem to be a common occurrence with Durant’s new franchise. Likewise, as both parties struggle, joining forces once again might be the solution.

Is Kevin Durant making a return to the Warriors?

The latest rumors around the league suggest several teams are battling to bring in Kevin Durant, and the Golden State Warriors are a part of the competitive race. Notably, the Phoenix Suns, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Miami Heat, and the Memphis Grizzlies are among the franchises to have shown keen interest in the four-time scoring champion.

Before the beginning of the season, Kevin Durant wanted a ticket out of Brooklyn. He put in a surprise trade request. During these times, there were talks between the Nets and Warriors to make the reunion happen. However, the Nets refused the initial offer that included Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and multiple other draft picks. Later on, Nets owner Joe Tsai and KD hashed things out, making the former MVP believe in the project.

As interests have sparked again, the Warriors most probably won’t want to let go of Andrew Wiggins. The former number-one pick is having yet another All-Star-caliber season playing two-way basketball. The 27-year-old is averaging 18.6 points on a career-high field goal percentage. Moreover, he is also adding 1.4 steals. Likewise, the Warriors will have to make a tough decision to send their young core as a part of the exchange. It might comprise of Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman, and Moses Moody. On the other hand, the Warriors may also center a deal around their veterans like Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

It’s still unclear if the Brooklyn Nets will even consider trading Durant to a title contender. However, the reunion might have a similar effect as the first time. Just like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant is on a scorching hot scoring run. The Slim Reaper has scored 35+ in all three of his last contests. The Curry-Durant duo would create a nearly unbreakable offense. On the other end of the floor, Wiggins and Draymond Green could act as the relentless force. It’s a reunion the Dub Nation might welcome with open arms, considering the current state of their franchise.
