Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski are ready to fight for the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 284. The event is set to take place in Perth, Australia, at the RAW Arena. It will be the first time that the top 2 pound-for-pound fighters will be battling inside the octagon. However, rumors suggest that Charles Oliveira will be in Australia as well.
The fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski is one of the most anticipated fights in UFC’s calendar year in 2023. The current lightweight champion has confirmed that his former coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov, will not be present in his corner at UFC 284. This could play to the advantage of ‘The Great’ since he will have the support of his home crowd.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that the Makhachev vs. Volkanovski fight had broken the record for highest pay-per-view buys in Australia and New Zealand. One of Conor McGregor’s matches previously held this record. However, there are rumors that the former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will be in Australia for the event.
Fans show frustration at rumors of Charles Oliveira being the replacement for Makhachev vs Volkanovski
An Instagram page with the username, ‘fullviolence’, shared a post claiming that Charles Oliveira will be in Australia for the UFC 284.
