Not Jorge Masvidal, but Gilbert Burns Blamed for Botching the Masvidal-Burns Fight

Gilbert Burns Vs Jorge Masvidal did not materialize yet again. It now seems that the long-anticipated matchup is now on the back burner once more. In addition, it is rumored that Neil Magny will be replacing Masvidal to face Gilbert Burns. UFC legend Chael Sonnen broke down into the match-up and how it failed to materialize once more.

Brazilian welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns recently faced Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 on 10th April 2022. He lost the bout via the judge’s decision. What’s more, the match-up involved the highly talked about Swedish MMA fighter whom Burns faced. He was the favorite to win, but Burns gave a hell of a fight that was lauded by spectators globally.

Durinho‘ was on course to face ‘Gamebred‘. The American MMA fighter’s last Octagon appearance featured a fight against former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. Moreover, the battle ended with Covington claiming the spoils of victory with the judge’s decision.

Chael Sonnen provides insight into why the fight got canceled

American UFC legend hosts his own YouTube channel, where he breaks down into combat sports events and athletes. Furthermore, his association with the UFC blesses him with the fighter’s perspective. This helps him dissect the fight at a micro-level to give a near-perfect fight analysis. 

In his latest video, he encapsulates the canceled Burns Vs Masvidal fight and gives insights as to why it hasn’t gone through. In his opinion, it was Masvidal who could have been the reason for the fight not going through. Furthermore, Neil Magny has emerged as a replacement to face Gilbert Burns.

He said, “But now you’re keeping in Magny and you’re keeping Burns. Burns doesn’t know 2 words, Burns doesn’t know ‘No’. He doesn’t know that word

“It’s like when Burns was trying to be bilingual and he was trying to like, it was as though somebody played a joke on him and only taught him how to say ‘Yes’.” he further added.

After the Brazilian welterweight’s last fight, fans were wondering whom will he face next. Out of all the potential matches ups, Jorge Masvidal emerged as one of the most suited. According to ‘Durinho‘, UFC had offered him Masvidal’s fight at the end of 2022 and at the beginning of 2023.

Moreover, it is equally important to know that Masvidal underwent an operation on his hand that would have made him unfit for any battle. For this reason, it was rumored that Masvidal turned down the opportunity to fight Burns.
