Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest stars that the WWE has ever produced. This was clearly evident from the way the fans went berserk when Johnson showed up on SmackDown almost 2 months ago. But this appearance was mainly possible because of the Hollywood actor’s strike. Now that the strike has ended after 118 days, will Johnson still continue to appear in the WWE?

More so, is there still a chance for him to fight his cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in the main event?

The Tribal Chief is fresh from his recent win against LA Knight at Crown Jewel. Will Knight continue his pursuit for the title, we will have to wait for this week’s SmackDown for that. But other than Knight, there is currently no other opponent who might be able to challenge Reigns for the title at WrestleMania 40.

That brings us to a showdown between the cousins Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns. Fans were super excited when Johnson showed up on SmackDown in September. Sadly Reigns was on a hiatus at that time. Otherwise, the two would have definitely come face to face. Fans are eagerly hoping for a title match between the two juggernauts at Wrestlemania 40. And Johnson is definitely not shying away from the fans’ hopes.

On his recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Johnson said he is very “open” to a battle between the cousins at WrestleMania 40 in April. He also noted that there is “potential” for this bout to actually take place. If this match ever sees the light of day, it will be way bigger than the WrestleMania matches The Rock has had with Hulk Hogan or even John Cena. And seems like there is hope as Johnson was still in talks with the WWE for future storylines.

But this isn’t the first time this has happened. A Reigns vs Johnson match was almost slated to happen at WrestleMania 39.

Dwayne Johnson facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 was almost “locked”

Johnson revealed the same in September. Johnson said, “The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns, SoFi Stadium, that was locked”.

He then added that he, Vince McMahon, and WWE President Nick Khan almost reached a deal back in 2022 for the match to happen at WrestleMania 39. But sadly both parties couldn’t agree on what the next part of the storyline would be.

Hopefully, all these minor differences are sorted this time around so that the fans actually get to see Johnson face Reigns at WrestleMania. But what are your opinions on Dwayne Johnson facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania in 2024? Do you think it’ll actually happen?

One take at a time

I still vividly remember the time when WWE VHS's used to be played on cable movie channels every Sunday(early 90s in India). And that's where my love for the WWE began. My love and passion for pro wrestling only grew over the years in the form of a mini collection of cards, stickers, tees, action figures and even a WWE Championship belt signed by the 'Big Red Machine' Kane himself (talk about getting lucky).
