“I Am a Jake Paul Fan”: Shakur Stevenson Reflects on Mike Tyson vs. ‘The Problem Child’ Saga Set for July 20

Though everyone is talking about the upcoming Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight, not everyone seems to be entirely on board with it. Since the fight was announced in early March, many have voiced their concerns about Tyson’s age and the age gap between the two fighters. In a similar situation, Shakur Stevenson has revealed his thoughts about the fight.
The much-talked-about clash is scheduled for 20 July at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, home to the Dallas Cowboys. So, when Ellie Seckbach from ES News probed ‘Sugar’ Stevenson about the fight in an interview shared on social media today, even the Newark native, who claims to be a Jake Paul fan, couldn’t help but express his concerns about the former heavyweight champion.

Speaking to Seckbach, Stevenson reacted to the upcoming fight, claiming, “I don’t know, that’s going to be weird!” He further added, “I am a Jake Paul fan. I love [what] Jake Paul doing for the sport of boxing and his fighters, what he [does] behind the scenes…” However, Stevenson doesn’t want to see Mike Tyson return to the ring. But why?

Stevenson claimed that he understands why Tyson wants to fight, but being a Tyson fan, he can not bring himself to watch the fight. “I am not a supporter of that. I think Mike’s kinda older in his career… he wants to make some money, but I don’t want to see that. I don’t like seeing that, I am a big Mike Tyson fan too, so… I don’t [want to] watch that,” said Stevenson.

The last time ‘Iron’ Mike entered the squared circle, it was against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020 for an exhibition bout. So, who better to give a clear picture of how it feels like to get punched by Tyson in his retirement? Speaking to the Mirror Fighting, Roy Jones Jr. claimed, it won’t be easy for Paul to win the fight.

“When I boxed him, he still punched like Mike Tyson. If he hits anybody square on the chin it’s going to be problematic. I don’t care who it is. I like Jake Paul, he’s a good guy and he’s doing good with his boxing stuff,” said Jones Jr. Moreover, Jones suggested from a promotional standpoint, the fight would do good numbers, which means the fight would make both fighters a lot of money.

With that said, there are people like Shakur Stevenson, who, despite being fans of both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, wouldn’t want to watch the fight. At the same time, there are people like Roy Jones Jr., who are confident Tyson has a good chance of flooring Paul. Which side do you belong to? Are you worried about the age gap?
