Carlos Sainz Argues Against the Impact of Sim-racing Loved by Leclerc, Verstappen & Norris

Carlos Sainz has adjusted very well into his Ferrari in his first season with the team. The driver switched from McLaren to Ferrari at the beginning of the season and has impressed everyone. He has been on pace with his teammate Charles Leclerc in most of the races.
Sainz has always adapted well to his team in F1. But he mentions that, unlike his competitors, he is not a sim racer and prefers to relax with his friends in his off-time.

I’d rather spend my time working with the car: Carlos Sainz
As reported by Auto Motor Und Sport, Sainz stated he would rather develop the car in person than become a sim racer. When asked if it is a disadvantage to not work on sima lot as compared to Norris, Leclerc, or Verstappen, he said –
“I’m not a sim racer because I’ve been spending a lot of time in the team’s simulator. I’d rather spend my time working with the car that I’ll be driving next weekend or next year.”

“I’ve been driving the 2022 car in the simulator since January to help the team develop it. The simulators for computer games are nowhere near as complex or as realistic as those in the Formula 1 factories. That’s why I prefer to use my free time to relax or meet friends.
I’ve already competed in virtual races, especially during the lockdown, and wasn’t that bad at it, but during one season I sit in the simulator so much that I want to do something different outside of my work life,” said the Ferrari driver.

The Ferrari driver mentions how does he adapt so well after changing teams
Sainz debuted in Toro Rosso, then went to Renault in 2017. I 2019, he joined McLaren, and in 2021; he ended up in Ferrari. He states he has always adapted well in his time in F1.
” I was always able to adapt well. Ever since my youth. It was always a challenge for me to be quick and at home as quickly as possible with a new car or in another racing category. It’s part of my DNA.

The experience helped me too. I’ve changed teams in Formula 1 three times now, and I know how big this task is. That’s why I didn’t underestimate them,” said Carlos.
Sainz is P6 in the standings with 83 points and has three more points than his teammate.
