Miami GP won’t see a good race if you believe Lewis Hamilton among other drivers. It’s a new track and a lot of drivers have opinions, some contradicting each other while the others are in agreement. But they can all agree on one fact: the race will be a tricky one. We witnessed a lot of drivers spinning throughout the eventful FP1 and FP2. And this might continue the entire weekend, leading to an incident full race.

There is little to no grip outside the racing line, which was the major cause of all the spins. The freshly resurfaced Miami Grand Prix circuit promises difficult passing opportunities during the race. And even after a much-improved practice session for Lewis Hamilton, he was critical about the track.

Hamilton, in reference to the “big, big, big bumps in so many places” on the track, said, “I don’t know if they will be able to grind that at night and improve it.”

An extremely critical Norris said, “I think everyone was expecting it to be very smooth and beautiful. But it’s not. The surface is very tricky, you go off-line anywhere and it’s pretty much game over, you spin, you end up in the wall. It’s punishing. That’s why you’ve seen a lot of people ending up in the barriers.”

Leclerc in agreement with Lewis Hamilton

Reciprocating the Mercedes man’s opinion, Leclerc predicted, “The asphalt will spice things up. There is very high grip on the racing line and very low grip off it, which will make it difficult to overtake. It is also rather aggressive on tyres, so it will be important to manage them well throughout the race.” 

But the Ferrari championship leader also said the track is “really nice to drive.” It’s a mixed bag of opinions after the first two practice sessions.

The likes of Bottas, Sainz, and Sergio Perez all spun out during practice sessions. It will be a tricky race for all drivers as all-new tracks are. With no way to predict the results of the race, FP3 should bring us more clarity on the difficulty of the track.
