Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to breaking records. Fans widely consider him as the most capable and successful driver in the history of F1. Hamilton joined F1 in 2007 and initially drove with the McLaren F1 team. He later shifted to Mercedes, which was considered a controversial move back then. It’s safe to say that he has come a long way since and has dominated the sport for 10 years with Mercedes.
The Britisher, besides Mercedes, has incredible stats with McLaren too. In his six years with the English team, he managed to acquire 21 wins and 11 pole positions. In his rookie year, he got 4 wins despite facing tough competition from the formidable Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton has always had it in him
To begin with, Hamilton has won a historic 100 Grand Prix. He surpassed Michael Schumacher’s record of the most wins in 2020. Additionally, he finished 2020 with 165 podium finishes. While, in 2021, he increased his podium finishes to 178, which was a record.
Hamilton also has the most pole positions (101) which he peaked at the Italian Grand Prix in 2017. Michael Schumacher is the only other person to have achieved this feat with 68 poles. The Mercedes driver had previously got his 100th pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix,2021.

Schumacher held the record of the most laps led for a pretty long time. However, the 2021 season saw Hamilton add another feather to his cap, as he added 154 laps to his tally of 5,099, converting it into a grand total of 5,253 laps. Overall, throughout his career, Hamilton has shared and broken many of Schumacher’s records.

Time to surpass
Hamilton also has the fastest qualifying lap under his belt, 164.267 mph. He secured this feat in Monza, 2021. Hamilton and Schumacher also share the record of the most wins at one Grand Prix-8. While Schumacher dominated the French Grand Prix between 1994-2006, Hamilton was unbeatable at the Hungarian Grand Prix from 2007 to 2020. Technically, Lewis can still surpass Schumacher.

The Briton also holds the record for the most pole positions at one Grand Prix, 8. While he shares this number with the beloved Ayrton Senna and Schumacher, he still has a chance to surpass them in 2022.
Hamilton was denied a ninth win at the Australian Grand Prix for two consecutive years (2020-2021) because of Covid-19. However, the Grand Prix has made a comeback this year and Hamilton fans are positive of a probable win.

Lewis also shares another record with Michael, Most world championships (7). Last season Hamilton had a controversial ending to his winning streak, however, the racing fraternity is optimistic that Hamilton will soon grab the eighth win. The 2022 season is expected to be a very exciting season, with Lewis determined to win his championship back from arch-rival Max Verstappen.
